Podcasts are great features especially when you can't listen to something and can listen to it later via podcast. One podcast my husband and I download and follow is the Chris Moyles show from BBC Radio 1. Although you can listen to the station online, its broadcast at the British time zone, 5 hours ahead. Sirius radio does have it set to our time but unfortunately we cancelled our subscription when we traded cars in 2007. So with the technology of podcast we can listen to our favorite morning show and my husband can keep in touch with his home country's music ties.
It amazes me all the new words to that are added to the dictionary such as podcast. One word off subject which I think is an awesome word added to the dictionary is mcjob – I know off subject, but had to stick it in there.
What I did learn from the tutorials is where to look for podcasts other then itunes if you don't know where to go. I'll definitely have to check it out to see what I can find that will interest me. When the author of the tutorial was going to through the websites of podcasts I saw an ad for earthlink...wow I didn't realize they were still around.
I like how apple set up RSS feeds with safari and also in mac mail. I was not aware of the software called juice to listen to ipods. I'll have to download it and check it out.

Google Docs-Lessons 1
I have not used google docs before but have heard of it. In the google apps world I am active user of gmail and analytics to keep track of web traffic on websites I have created for work or for freelance projects. I did run into a google photo album once that a friend sent to me but have not found a real use for it myself.
With google docs, I can definitely see the uses of it for large companies that my have a few people working on lets say a document of copy for a large brochure. It allows everyone to save to one place and send a link to others to review to that location. If you can't afford to buy a word processor or don't feel the need to to because of the freebies out there such as open office and google docs, then this is a good program for you. I have both pages and word on my mac and can't stand Microsoft office, waiting to upgrade my pages because it was a trial run.
Will have to wait until I get the new files for the rest of the lessons to finish up, off to the next area of lessons in this course.

blogger videos- lesson 6-7
In lesson 7, the author discusses feeds and how Blogger uses atom because its very standardized software. With blogger you can't use any other format and are limited to atom unless you can write your own feed code. She also mentions WordPress for more robust publishing. In my daily search in graphic and web design blogs others have created I see an high interest in Wordpress. I am curious about Wordpress and its uses and hope to learn more about it soon.
I noticed the video is a little different for feeds then what is showing up on blogger now, I looked around but not seeing the Publish site feed option. Perhaps its because I don't have blogger set up with an ftp server yet.
It's a great idea that blogger set up an email feature to send people your blog especially a group. I like how you can create a group mass email with yahoo group and set up that up with blogger. It's funny how the auther discusses how her mom uses email, I still have to show both my parents how to use the computer still...not looking forward to that.

blogger videos- lesson 1-5
From the videos I have reviewed, its really easy to set up a blog. I actually was going to create one back in 2004/2005 when it first started getting the "it" thing to do but that idea passed. Its pretty exciting to have a blog but will need to think of what to do one on for my personal use other then school. What I didn't know with blogger.com is that you can set it up with your hosting provider's ftp log in. That definitely good for your personal website or company to link the two together.
One thing I have run across in my day job is the idea of running a blog for a program at Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo called Stone's Buddies. I originally was a part of creating the new website but my boss wanted IS&T web team to work on it. Anyways, they wanted to create a user blog that members could post info and share ideas about the program. One major issue they worried about was family members self diagnosing their kids and other users kids on the site. In the end I think they ditched the idea because they would need to create a monitor to watch the site. I'll have to look into it soon and see if it is in the works still as the final completed site is not up on the web just yet.
Blogger-Intro Video Comment
